Yes, using a plugin makes it a lot easier. There are ways to display ads without it looking tacky or intruding.
I just recently tried out the official Google adsense plugin the reason for that is that it integrates adsense directly on your site. You can also preview how the ads will be displayed and look on your site, handy plugin that has worked well for me,

I have had some trouble getting adsense to display on my site. I have been trying to do it by pasting the code into my posts.

I will try the plugin you have recommended, it seems like it will be a much easier way to incorporate the ads.

I was concerned before that having ads in my content would look a bit tacky, but I will test a few different formats as suggested to find what works best for me.

They can be a little tricky approving a new site, so well done. You do need some helpful content on there… is that what you did to get approved, add some more content to the site?
I`m glad that you found the information helpful, there`s a lot more to making money with Adsense then to just put up some ads in the sidebar. Different things works for different sites. Testing, testing, testing until you have a winning concept is my suggestion.
