Do you find yourself, wondering if you could possibly be a little bit more productive throughout the work day?
I work from home, there can be a lot of distractions, there`s always laundry that can be done or a closet to clean out…
These are a few tips that I use myself to stay on track and get as much done as possible when my kiddos are in school.
So when they get off the bus, I can spend quality time with them.
9 Ways to Stay Productive and Get IT Done
1. Be Honest with Yourself
Watching last nights dancing with the stars or funny clips on YouTube is most likely NOT related to your business and would not be considered ”working”, research maybe but probably naah.
Same thing with ”surfing” the net, it is easy to get carried away. Ask yourself this, will what you are doing move you closer to your goals or will it just eat up your time?
I had one of those incidents yesterday, I had signed up for a live call, a seminar about email marketing. 30 minutes into the call when they had wasted my time on telling me how good they were, how much money they made… blah blah blah. I decided to go find the information I was looking for elsewhere.
Sure the call was related to my business, but it was a time hog and I wasn`t interested in buying their product anyway. We all know the sale at the end of the call is the purpose for them doing the call in the first place. Anyway, I closed the call searched around the internet and found pretty quickly what I was looking for, saved me some time.
2. Priorities – Top 3 Tasks That SHOULD Be Done at the End of the Day
How you keep track of your daily tasks will be up to you. Personally I have a calendar where I write everything down that needs to be done. Yes still use pen and paper… I get an easy overview and I check each task off when done.
I usually have 3 -5 tasks that I need done daily.
If you prefer using the computer or smartphone to keep track of your daily tasks then that`s fine as well. Find a good program or app to work with and start scheduling your stuff.
3. Be Specific
The more specific you are with your tasks when you add them into your calendar the faster you can get started and you are more likely to follow through.
If you add in ”writing” in your calendar you might not have a problem with procrastinating and put it off. If you add ”write post about google`s latest update for itsvicky.com”. Then you know exactly what needs to be done, for what site and might be more likely to do it, I know I am.
Just do it – Ah the Nike slogan, it`s true though. If you dread writing that article, if you just start it, it does get easier and you might actually enjoy it.
4. Forgive Yourself
Don`t dwell on things if they don`t get done. Try to have a rule to not move a task more than once or twice. It`s ok to have to put off things sometimes, things comes up that you have to deal with right away. Don`t be too hard on yourself.
5. Is It Important to You?
If you have no interest in doing social marketing for example, if you every time dread the idea of posting something on Facebook or Twitter, don`t.
There are no set rules to what has to be done. Do what you enjoy and are good at as long as it moves you closer to your goals.
6. Stay Positive
You are going to be a lot more productive with a positive mindset. Sure there will be ups and downs, but do things with a positive attitude.
7. Accountability
For some they need to feel accountable. If this is you, find somebody doing the same thing you are that can help you be accountable. Share your goals and tasks and help each other get them done. If you are doing online marketing, check out this place for like minded people to connect with.
8. Exercise
I find myself being a lot more productive and get more things done when I am exercising in the morning. I enjoy a class a couple of times a week in the morning and some days I just go for a walk. Getting out in that fresh air feels good to.
9. Reward Yourself
When you do get things done, be proud of it. When you do reach the set goals reward yourself. If you work for yourself nobody but yourself will do it. There are many ways you can reward yourself here are a few satisfying rewards to use.
Set goals, get things done and reach those goals!
