I just love this video. American kids are getting a taste from around the world. They try breakfast from Korea, Brazil, Finland, Vietnam, Poland and Netherlands.
How do they respond to fish or coffee for breakfast? It`s all in this entertaining video.
My kids can relate to this video. In our house it`s a mix of American and Swedish food. Yup, Sweden is right beside Finland and yes I`ve had fish for breakfast many times, I enjoy smoked salmon for breakfast.
This is very true though, how things are very different in different cultures. It reminds me of when I was pregnant. How some things are tabu for pregnant women in some cultures but totally accepted in some. Take fish for example. Some cultures say cut down on fish while some say eat more of it.
So what can this teach us in the online marketing world.
3 Things to Learn from “American Kids Eat Breakfast from Around the World” Video
1. Know Your Audience
Obviously if you serve a Korean breakfast to a Korean child they will eat it and be happy. Same thing with online marketing you have to know who you are serving through your website.
WHO are on the otherside of the computer? Who are you trying to help with your content or product? Narrow it down and thalk to that person specificly. You can even set up a ”perfect visitor/customer profile” and when you submit content keep this person in mind.
So how can you figure out who your audience is? Research the internet, visit forums where your perfect visitor hang out and read reviews.Visit the places they go on the internet and see what they have to say, get to know your audience.
When you have people visiting your site, interact with them. Ask them questions, encourage them to leave comments, use polls and be social with them.
2. Serve Your Audience What They Want
The chocolate toast from the Netherlands seemed to be a winner among the kids. Serve them what they want and they will be happy. :).
Same rule apply online… When you have figured out WHO your perfect visitor to your website is you have to give that person what they want. Now don`t just guess what they want, find out what they want.
Are they looking for information, a product or a review? These can be delivered in many different forms; information for example can be delivered through a blog post, ebook, podcast, video… How do they want what they are looking for delivered?
This takes us to the next point.
3. Don`t Be Afraid to Test and Try New Things
Just like the kids in the video don`t be affraid to try new things. Maybe right now you are using blogposts and ebooks, add video or broadcast to the site and see what it does.
Some things will be a total hit and some things you will have to mark as a learning experience. One of the best way to improve your site is through testing your site.
Test different elements to improve conversion, to improve engagement, to improve CTR (click through rate) and more.
