Are you just getting started and looking for ideas on how to pick a niche? What should your first website be about? There are niches all around us. Your latest TV purchase can be a niche, your latest problem or issue can be a niche, your favorite sport can be a niche.
In this article we will talk about 3 different ways to help you find a niche to get started with.
1. Your Interest
Some people say ”just pick one of your interest to write about” well it is true that if you pick a niche that you are interested in then it will be a lot easier to work with. It will be a lot easier because you already know a little bit about the niche plus if you are interested in the subject it does not feel like work to research and write about it.
How do you come up with a niche based on your interest? Say that you love to exercise and workout. Exercise is too broad to work with though you would want to target in on a smaller niche for example aerobic exercises. You can then create a website around that niche.
Say you love to travel, then you can create a website around your favorite destination. Love to watch movies? Create a review site around new released movies. The possibilities are endless.
2. Amazon
A place to get new ideas or dig deeper into a subject that you like is to use Amazon.com. You can search the departments in the sidebar or type in the subject and the search will bring back lots of useful results. If we use the exercise example again and I type that into Amazon, it will bring me lots of good ideas.
I also like searching the book titles. Not does it only give me ideas of niches but I can also see what people are interested in by searching bestsellers.
I also read the reviews, this is real people telling me what they thought about the books. What issues they have and so on. This can be very helpful and give you more ideas.
3. Dmoz
Another place to get niche ideas is to use Dmoz.com. Pick a subject of interest and start to drill down.
Say you have teenagers and would like to create a website about issues they might have. So click Kids and Teens then Teen Life.
There you have a list of different topics to chose from. Say we want to write about health issues then here are some good topics to pick from.
Drill Down
The key is to drill down and not pick a too broad of a niche. Focus in on one niche and master that before you move on.
Is any niche profitable?
You can pretty much make money in any niche. If there is not a product related you can display ads on your site and earn revenue that way.
I hope this helped you out and gave you some ideas for you to chose that first niche. Let me know if you have any other good ideas to reveal a niche, feel free to share them in the comment section below. How to pick a niche… now go do it 🙂
