What Is Google Adsense?

What Is Google Adsense?

April 15, 2013 By Vicky Leave a Comment

ad programsAre you asking the question, what is Google Adsense? We will talk about that, we will also digg deeper into how Adsense works and if you can make money with it.

Google Adsense is a ad program operated by Google. You the publisher will display ad units on your sites, this can be text ads, banners or ad videos. The ad units will be highly relevant to your topic and if somebody click your ads you will earn revenue.

The Google Adsense program has been around since June 2003. It is a good way for small websites that don`t have their own advertisers to make some money. The most common based ads are the CPC (cost per click) this means that the visitor has to click your ad for you to earn revenue. CPM (impression based) are another option but not as common.

How Does Google Adsense Work?

1. Sing up with Google Adsense.
2. Create an ad unit in your Google Adsense account.
3. Copy and paste the html code into your site where you want the ad to show.
4. When someone visit your page or post, ads will get displayed from Google`s servers. This allow them to make the ads relevant to not only to the content but also to the visitor.
5. These ads comes from companies participating in the Google AdWords program.
6. You keep track of your clicks and earnings in your Google Adsense account.

Can You Make Money with Google Adsense?

You can make good money using Google Adsense. You can create sites where Google Adsense compliment affiliate programs or you can build plain Adsense sites.

I have both and it depends on the niche what works best. The best way is to try things out for yourself to see what works for your niche and site.

The one thing you don`t want to do with Google Adsense is try to game the system. Don`t click yourself on the links or pay somebody to do it… Google Adsense will have you banned if you do not follow their rules.

What Ad Size to Use?

Google Adsense offers many different sizes of ad units.

-Leaderboard
-Banners
-Skyscrapers
-Rectangles
-Squares

It depends on where on your page you want to have them show. One unit that I have had good success with is the medium rectangle 300×250 embedded in to the content in the beginning of the post or page. This means that the ad unit float left or right and that I wrap text around it so it looks appealing to the reader.

Text or Banner Ads?

Another thing to think about is if you want your ads to display text ads or banner/picture ads. I would say that it depends on the niche. From my own experience with my niches I have had better results with text ads. In my niches I think that visitors gets kind of ”immune” to the picture banners. They might like that they are there but don`t click them.

This is something you will have to test yourself to see what gives your site the best result.

Where to Place Your Ads?

This is a chart from Google Adsense themselves, where to place your ads:

Google Adsense will allow you to place up to 3 ad units on a page or post.
