Working from home with your own online business, means that you will have to reward yourself.
There will be no boss giving you a pat on the back or giving you a bonus. You reward yourself.
The great thing with being in control is that you know what you value and like.
You know what`s important to you and you can give yourself just that as a reward.
This can be anything from a lunch out to a fun vacation, depending on the level of goal reached. If you are longing for a massage but don`t take the time to get one, make it one of your rewards after reaching a goal.
There are all kinds of different rewards. The ones below are a few that I have used and found being very rewarding for myself.
5 Satisfying Rewards to Give Yourself When Reaching a Set Goal
1. Thank You Note
One of the best rewards I have ever given myself, was to write a thank you note to a friend that gave me the courage to start my own online business. She introduced me to a writer and a seminar I attended years ago. This seminar gave me the inspiration and courage to start my own online business.
When I reached one of my financial goals, when I was making the same amount working for myself as I was working for somebody else, I sent her a thank you note. It was the most exciting, most rewarding, thank you note I have ever written. It allowed me to not only thank her, but to share with her how she had impacted my career choice.
I will forever be grateful for the seed she planted, that today has turned into a blossoming online business.
2. Sponsor a Child
Early on, one of my goals was to sponsor a child. When I reached one of my goals I signed up with WorldVision. WorldVision will help you connect with a child so that you can financially sponsor that child.
We have sponsored Wilson for about 7 years now. He is born the same day my son is, right now they are both about to turn 11 years old. They both like soccer and school and it has been a great experience for the whole family .
3. Seminar or Course
Treat yourself to a course or seminar that will give your business a bust. Fun and beneficial. Here are some upcoming events that are highly relevant to affiliate marketing:
- Amsterdam Affiliate Conference June 2015
- Rakuten New York June 2015
- Affiliate Summit in New York August 2015
- Content Marketing in Cleveland September 2015
- Bloggy Conference at Cedar Point Ohio
I will be at the Bloggy Conference at Cedar Point, if you are going let me know!
4. Make a Donation
Is there something, a cause or an organization that you feel very strongly about and would like to contribute financially to? It could be anything, save the tigers in the jungle, help a needing child, give to a local women`s shelter…
Maybe a local school or food pantry are in need of a donation, what ever you feel strongly about contribute to it.
An alternative could be to donate your time to help out with an important cause localy.
5. Time Off
Working for yourself is very rewarding but it takes a lot of time. It is important to take a break here and there. Sit back relax and enjoy.
How does a day off sound? Taking time off can be a great way to reward yourself and recharge your batteries.
Take the day off to do whatever you feel like. Without guilt, go for that extra long lunch, spend the day shopping, go watch a movie or take a long walk… whatever it is that you enjoy take the day off and do it.

They all look so nice. All of them.
Don’t you want to be “that” friend to whom I will send a “thank you” note in the future?
I wait for an article on how to punish yourself if you are stupid enough, or unlucky enough not to find the right path, the right people, the right… I don’t know, stars’ alignment…and thinks don’t go well at all. 🙁
Congratulations for a great site, great inspiration, great articles!

Hi Laura,
I don`t see any reason for punishing yourself. If you make mistakes, learn from them and try to not do the same mistake again.
That`s how we all learn, we make mistakes and improve upon that. So no punish posts on this site.
Feel free to check out some of the inspirational stuff on the site though…

I did. 🙂 They are great.
The problem is when you simply don’t know which are the mistakes….
🙂
Vicky says
Glad you liked them.
That`s how it is for everybody starting out.
That`s why you might want to try a few different things and see what works best.
When I say that I mean, try writing different types of articles for your site.
It can be “how to” articles, it can be product reviews, it can be product comparisons, it can be plain information…
When you find something that work well, where you see some result, rinse and repeat.
Hope that helps Laura,
Vicky

It does, Vicky, thanks. I will think of all these.

hi Vicky
when I read the title of your article, I was expecting rewards such as treat yourself with a day of pampering or a dinner with a friend. But the rewards you discuss here are so much better!! I love hearing your story with Wilson and how meaningful the sponsoring became for your whole family. That’s just awesome. And making a donation is always a good idea. Something I do whenever I can
Vicky says
Hi Emily,
Thank you for your comment. I do enjoy those rewards as well, a massage or dinner with a friend.
But the rewards with deeper meaning is the ones that has really had an impact on me and I wanted to share those.
Yes the experience with Wilson has been great for the whole family, the kids get so excited when we get an update or letter from him.
They send drawings and pictures and it`s been fun for all of us. I can highly recommend sponsoring a child through WorldVision.

Hi Vicky. You’ve certainly given me some food for thought with your unusual, but really good perspectives on giving a reward. My usual method of rewarding myself is buying a good bottle of wine and enjoying it with the love of my life.
I do notice that a lot of your rewards appear to be given to others rather than to yourself. It’s obvious to me that this you find this personally rewarding so ..yeah … I get it. Really cool ideas.
Vicky says
Hi,
Thank you for your comment. Don`t get me wrong I enjoy a good bottle of wine too.
Yes, some of the rewards is to give and help others, because that makes me feel good. To me that`s a reward.
When I wrote that note, I had been thinking about it for a long time so when it came time to do it, it was the best feeling ever.
But sure I will never decline a good glass of wine 🙂

What a great article!
Like the others, I was expecting you to mention different kinds of personal rewards – I like yours better!
It gives me a little insight into just the kind of person you are – and I’m liking what I see.
For me, for now, following you is my “personal reward”!
Bookmarked this site – thanks Vicky!

Thanks for a wonderful post, well written and easy to understand. Im just getting started so i can say i have not reached my set goals but will sure book mark your site for later when i start reaching my goals and need to reward myself.
The only way i reward myself for now is time off,i need it.
Once again thanks so much.
Cheers Roamy

Hi Roamy,
Time off can be the most precious reward of them all. It`s important to step away from the computer and get some inspiration elsewhere.
Rewards can be for what ever goals you set. It can be finishing a training, it can be writing 5 posts in a week, it can be anything you want. So go set some goals and reward yourself :),

You know what I love most about working from home? Teaching my kids that they too can follow their passions. I think the world needs more entrepreneurs and more people willing to help others. If more of us can do what we love for a living, we can be a happier world. I feel like when I am able to work full-time from home, I will have more resources to be generous with, you can’t be generous when you are struggling to survive. So I look forward to being able to pay it forward in the near future.
Vicky says
Hi,
I agree with you Andrea. Be honest with your self and follow your passion is a very important lesson to teach our kids.
My kids know what I`m doing and at times they help me out with small things. My son is 10 and has already written his first product review 🙂
He wanted some cash, I said I will pay for a product review lol. He loves writing so for him that was an easy task.
Thanks for your comment,
Vicky
