Maybe you are a single mom who is trying to make more money from home, to make sure you have that extra for your kids?
Maybe you are a mom who wants to do affiliate marketing and turn it into a full-time business?
In this post, we’ll talk about the basics of affiliate marketing and why it’s a great way for moms to make money. I will also show you a few examples of moms who are making money as affiliates and where to start if you are interested…
AFFILIATE MARKETING + MOM = GREAT COMBINATION
3 Reasons WHY Affiliate Marketing and Being a Mom Is a Great Combination
1. Priorities
We know when it’s time to priorities. Juggling multiple things at the same time is something we do daily. We carry one child on the hip, talk on the phone and stir the soup at the same time. It’s just what moms do, right?
Affiliate marketing takes a lot of juggling. Writing blog posts, image creation, social media, networking… To be able to create a schedule, stick to it and prioritize what needs to be done is invaluable.
2. Stories Connect with People
As moms, we experience new things with our kids every day. We create new stories and new memories daily. Stories connect with people. When doing affiliate marketing, telling stories, sharing what worked and what did not, what product you used yourself and how you used them connect far better than “selling”. Moms are great at story telling.
3. Moms Don’t Quit
“Pick up the socks and put them in the laundry, please. Did you pick up the socks? Put those socks in the laundry now.”
We have good training, we don’t quit.
As moms, we have ups and downs but we don’t quit. Apply the same to affiliate marketing and you will find a way to succeed. I’ve been doing affiliate marketing for 9 years and it’s been ups and downs, believe me, I’m so glad I didn’t give up and quit. Things are going better than ever! You can read how I got started here.
The Main Reason WHY I as a MOM Love Affiliate Marketing
I’m In Charge of My Time
I put in a lot of hours doing affiliate marketing, but on my own terms. When the kids were little and home with me I would work during nap time and when they went to bed. Today, they are both in school and I have plenty of time to work.
The great thing is though, that I have not missed one single school event, I’m there for the Christmas party, for Valentine’s day party, I volunteer for the STEAM club, I watch the Olympic day events… If there’s a snow day or my child don’t feel well, I’m here. I put them on the bus in the morning and I’m right here when they get off.
My kids even gets involved now -mom did you finish that review you were doing 🙂
I plan my schedule and my work so that I can take time off during the summer and during breaks. We love to travel and go back home to Sweden every year for about a month. Thanks to the WordPress scheduling feature, I can plan ahead and schedule content months ahead.
Affiliate marketing is also easy to bring with you, you can check in on your work at any time if you only have an internet connection.
Affiliate marketing has allowed me flexible hours, spending a lot of quality time with my kids and for that, I’m forever grateful!
If you were in charge of your own time, what would you do? Spend more time with the kids? Travel maybe?
The Basics of Affiliate Marketing
If you are new to affiliate marketing let me just quickly explain how it works. Say that you are running a blog called “MyMomBlog”. You share a story about how you bought your daughter’s first car seat. In that blog post, you link to Amazon using your affiliate link.
Missy is looking for a car seat for her grandson. Missy is searching Google for “best car seat for infant” your blog post shows up and she clicks through to your post. She likes what she reads and she clicks on your affiliate link that takes her to Amazon. There she purchases the car seat + some diapers for the baby. You will now earn a commission on the car seat and the diapers.
This is truly a win – win – win situation.
- Missy is happy that she got the information and the car seat that she needed.
- Amazon is happy they made a sale.
- You are happy you made a commission.

Do I Have to Create a “Mom Blog”?
Just because you are a mom doing affiliate marketing, doesn’t mean that you need a “mom blog”. You can do affiliate marketing and take it in any direction you want. Here at itsVicky.com, I share my affiliate journey. You might love gardening, or yoga, or grilling, or cars…
Follow your passion, create a blog around something that you can write about for hours. We all love our kids, and if you want to do a “mom blog” or are doing it all ready, that’s great. If you choose to go with something else, that’s great as well.
3 Ways to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing
- Pay per click – every time somebody clicks your link, you will earn a fee. Ads are a good example.
- Pay per lead – every time somebody does a specifically wanted task, fill out a form, for example, you will earn a fee.
- Pay per sale – every time somebody purchases something you will earn a commission. Like the example, I gave with Amazon earlier in the post.
I prefer working with pay per sale because it usually gives higher commissions.
Affiliate Programs for Moms to Work With
You can work directly with a company as an affiliate. I work with WA directly, for example. You can also work with affiliate networks and through the networks, you would get paid.
So say that you are signed up with LinkShare, within LinkShare you sign up with the companies you would like to work. Say you sign up with 3 different companies, company A, B, and C. Instead of getting paid directly from the different companies you are paid from LinkShare.
Amazon is another great affiliate program to work with. Many companies offer their products on Amazon, you can pretty much get anything or everything from there.
The great thing is you sign up for Amazon, use their links and they pay you directly no need to interact with all the different companies you are recommending products from.
An example of Affiliate Networks:
- LinkShare
- Commission Junction
- Amazon (kind of)
Depending on what your blog is about you can find specific affiliate programs. The most important thing is
RELEVANCY
Recommend products and services that are relevant to what you are blogging about. That is truly the key. If you have a website about gardening, a stroller review would not be relevant.
If you blog about gardening, talk about the tools you use when gardening, what seeds do you use, have you used any gardening services, read any books about gardening… Keep things relevant.
