“Fridays with Vicky 64”
Your excited you have this great blog post idea. You research it, you spend a few hours writing the post and you submit it, hoping this is the post that will drive tons of traffic to your site.
But the question is, what do you do when the post is submitted and live?
Roll your thumbs hoping the content is sooo good that people will just mysteriously find it. I tried that, trust me it doesn’t work.
No matter how good your content is, if you don’t take action, sharing your content, very FEW will find it and read it. Unless you worked your but off and have a huge following and list, you should take action on at least a few of the below methods to get your blog noticed.
WHY is it important to take on at least a few of the below methods?
Online marketing and traffic is a numbers game. The more sources you get traffic from, the more traffic you will get, make sense. So say that you usually submit your post to Twitter and Facebook, you also email your list. Say that this generate about 40 visitors to your new post.
That might be ok but what if you also create a video and submit it to YouTube and create an ad for Google Adwords, you can start small with a few dollars per day… Would that increase the traffic to your post? It sure would.
The more methods you use, still staying focused though, the more traffic you will get. You then want those people to interact with your site, leave a comment and share it on social media. You might want them to sign up to your newsletter or buy something… The more targeted traffic, the better conversion.
Also diversifying your traffic makes you less vulnerable, if one traffic source get shut down. Believe me it can, I learned it the hard way. I was relying heavily on YouTube traffic for one of my sites, one day for no reason, the channel was shut down… Not good, it didn’t help that there were many marketers in the same boat as I was in, we all went down. So make sure you have more than one traffic source. If you have several traffic sources, you will be less vulnerable for change.
Let’s dive in and see how you can get your blog noticed.
How to Get Your Blog Noticed – 7 Ways to Improve Your Traffic
1. Organic Listings
By using keywords within your content you help Google find and rank your content for these specific terms. Your blog and content gets ranked in Google and other search engines.
This can overtime be a great way to get your blog noticed and get good traffic to it.
Say that you have a blog about smoothies. Writing posts, targeting keywords like “healthy breakfast smoothies” or “best green smoothie recipes” will help you rank for these terms. When somebody search the term they might find your site in Google listings and click on it. A very effective long term strategy that should be implemented.

2. Social Media
This is a strategy where building your following will take time and should be ongoing, but when you have it in place you can quickly get visitors to your blog by submitting new content.
Focus in on one or two social media channels at the time and get those going. Trying to build up Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, G+, Pinterest and SnapChat all at the same time is not a good strategy take on one at the time and when you have it going then sure add another one. Find out which one works best with your blog and work that.
3. Email Your List
This will also take some time and should be an ongoing thing to build your list. When you have some subscribers you are only an e-mail away from contacting them and asking them to come back to the site.
With my “Fridays with Vicky” series I send out an email each Friday, using Aweber, letting my subscribers now that I have a new post up and briefly what its about.
4. Video
Video is a great way to create awareness of your blog and get visitors to it. Video is interactive and you can get a message across that you might not be able to with just plain text and images. Video allows you to connect on a deeper level with your visitors.
Video also ranks very well within the search engines, IF you do video right. A lot of times a see just a few words in the video description, that will not help your rankings. The way Google rank videos are through the written words. These are all placed in different areas on YouTube, if we use that as an example, and the description area is one of them. Take use of it, submit a well written text relevant to the video, I try to aim for 300 – 400 words. It will be worth it, the video will rank much better in the search engines, with a well written description text.
5. Audio – PodCast
Record audio or podcast is another way, another channel to get the word out there about your blog.
6. Ads
Paying for traffic can be a good way to get your blog noticed. This can be ads in the search engines Google and Bing for example. It can be ads on other websites, it can be ads in the newspaper…
Paying for traffic to your blog is a costly but quick way to get it noticed.
7. Reach out to Niche Experts
Go back and check your old content. Do you include niche experts, companies, tools? If you do, reach out to them and let them know that you have included them. One way is to email them or send them a message via their website another way is to go through social media.
I actually got Brian Dean and Pat Flynn to respond to me when I was doing a roundup post about Twitter… If you reach out, with a good cause more often than not people will respond and get back with you. If they happen to share your content on their social media, then great, you got some good traffic coming your way.
When writing new content keep this in the back of your mind. Include niche experts when suitable and then reach out to them. They might just like your blog and content and share it with others.
