“In the Hot Seat” Chris Lee from a Blog on Blogging

In today’s “in the hot seat” we welcome Chris Lee from a Blog on Blogging.

Chris “hates the idea of having a regular job” and today he works full time online, below he shares his journey with us.

 

1. Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Chris Lee and for the past 5 years, I’ve been trying to make this “internet business thing” work for me.

Glad to say that nowadays (after a lot of ups and downs) I run multiple blogs online that generate a comfortable income for me to live on every month.

I’m not making 100s of thousands a year (yet LOL) but I do ok and I am really enjoying the process of being an online entrepreneur.

2. How did you get into the online business world, what inspired you?

I think what got me into this was that just like many others reading this, I was sick and tired of being told what to do and how to live life.

I hate the idea of having a “job” and I always did (even before I came across online income opportunities), but when I came across the idea of building an online business, I was instantly hooked and I started investing my time, energy and money into trying to create one.

3. Could you briefly describe your blog or website?

My website is called aBlogOnBlogging.com and it’s where I share my tips, failures, wins and experiences with everybody that is trying to build up a great blog (which they can then monetize and live off).

I have to say it hasn’t exactly been easy since there is a lot of competition in this area but as with everything; with persistence, focus and dedication; you will eventually get there.

I’ve also recently started an other blog (3HUNDRD.com) where I try and review tools and services that online entrepreneurs need.

As you probably know Vicky, there are a lot of tools and services out there that are just not as great as they make it out to be. This site will hopefully help people save some money and point them to legitimate tools and services they can use to improve their online business.

4. How did you come up with the idea of your website or blog?

I had built, managed and run multiple blogs at that point (with different results) and my main focus was learning how to build my business.

It was what I was constantly reading and learning on so I decided to start a new website where I can share and reveal my experiences with running a blog. That is how “A Blog On Blogging” came to be.

5. What is it that drives you to work for yourself, running your own business?

As I’ve said earlier, I really hate a normal job. Some people may say they hate it too, but trust me; not with the intensity that I do LOL.

Everyday I wake up and look out my window and see the bus stop filled with people commuting to work in the cold and that is the moment I realize that I have work to do that day.

This is the main thing that drives me to keep pushing at it. That is why I keep learning, keep studying and keep working on my business.

6. What`s your best advice to find balance between work, family and life?

Personally, I don’t have a work-life balance. My life is my work, and I manage to do it and keep a sane head because I love doing what I do.

To anybody that is looking to find their balance, I would tell you to find that something that you like to do, and do that.

I know that sounds very “typical” but it’s true.

Working 15 hours a day on my computer is nothing for me, if I didn’t have anything to do, I would still be on my computer. So why not try and make something happen out of it?

Obviously, you should also pay close attention to your family and friends, just make sure that the time you spend with them is not coming out of the time you should be investing in creating something better for yourself.

“Luckily” for me, I’m not married and I don’t have any children to look after. Maybe if I was in that situation, I would change my approach.

7. How do you define success running your own website and online business?

The way I define my success is always changing.

For a lot of time, my definition of success was making the first $1, then once I got that I wanted a $100 day, which I got as well.

Nowadays I am trying to reach the 5 figure a month point so that’s always keeping me on my toes.

On the other hand, I also define success as having just 1 person reach out to me and ask me for help.

The fact that a person came across my website, found my content, looked for a way to contact me and actually did; means something.

I’m always happy to get an email from a reader.

Even though that may mean nothing with regards to earnings, it’s good to know I can offer advice that will help somebody deal with their own issues, which nowadays mostly mean help somebody build a business they will be proud to run.

8. What’s the most frustrating part of running your own business?

I wouldn’t say it’s frustrating, just challenging, and that is; constantly creating fresh content.

I’ve been blogging about blogging for years now and I’ve recently doubled my publishing frequency so sometimes I really struggle on what to discuss next.

That is also a good reason why I like having another blog topics that I write, this gives me a break from “the usual stuff” and opens up my eyes to new ways I can create and write content.

One other thing I find frustrating is when I lose an email subscriber! Gosh, I hate that! HAHA! It breaks my heart to know I couldn’t offer that person enough value for them to stay subscribed.

9. What’s the most positive aspect of running you own online business?

The responsibility that comes with it all.

Knowing that I am responsible for myself, my business and my readers is a huge positive aspect for me as it continues to push me forward, even through the frustrations I feel from the previous question.

The fact that I have to be held accountable for my results is both scary and motivating at the same time and that keeps me on my edge.

Also I like networking and working with people by doing guest blogging and interviews like this one, I really like being part of a community that is focused on building awesome businesses online.

10. What skill have you learned along the way, that you find invaluable running your online business today?

Consistency is key! I have made that my religion this past year and a half and once I adopted this mentality, everything fell into place.

I’ve also used this lesson outside of my business and it has also shown great results and improvements so “consistency” and “patience” are really huge in my book!

11. If you could travel back in time, to when you first started this online journey what advice would you give yourself?

Don’t waste any time.

If I hadn’t waited and procrastinated for so long, probably I would be in a much better position than I am today.

If I had developed the idea of “consistency” from day one, then I would have got to where I wanted to go much, much sooner.

So my advice to my old self would be that; stop taking shortcuts and get to work.

There are many other people that have started after me and now are doing better than me and sure, there are a lot of variables to success, but “working hard” is in the top 3 of those variable, for sure.

12. What do you see in the future for you and your business?

In the next few years, I would like to continue building and strengthening my business.

My number 1 goal right now is to make it to Wealthy Affiliate’s Las Vegas summit so I am 100% focused on that.

With the way things are going I can “probably” make it in 2017, if not; definitely 2018!

After that, I would also like to take my earnings and invest them in other places (both offline and online). It’s always been a dream of mine to open up a coffee shop haha.

At the end of the day, all my goals won’t be possible unless I keep providing great value to my readers so I see myself from now on till the foreseeable future, looking for ways to help others in any way that I can.
