We are getting close to 2016.
Time to wrap up 2015, look in the rare view mirror and reflect on how things went, before setting our new goals for next year.
You hear stories about people setting goals, shooting for the stars and their success stories when they reach them.
Imagine this. You have set up your blog and are getting a decent amount of visitors. Now you want to start earning from it. You might monetize the blog with affiliate products. Which means that when somebody click through your link to purchase something, you get paid a commission. Can you imagine the feeling and excitement when you see that first sale show in your account… I still remember mine like it was yesterday, lol.
This is a good, measurable and reachable goal. A great accomplishment when reached. You have to define your goals and most importantly take action.
There are so many people that set goals only to fail to reach them. Hoping that they will make more money or hoping the will get more time and freedom. Does this sound familiar? Have you ever set a goal that you failed to reach? I think we all have.
In today`s article we take a look at the past to be able to reach for the stars in the future. What are some things that you can look at to set yourself up for success. What ever your goal is… it can be done. It might not be easy and it might take time, but with the right education, mindset and guidance it can be done.
I`ve been working online for the last 8 years doing affiliate marketing. I wanted to have my own online marketing business because of the freedom it could give me. The freedom to set my own hours and work from where ever I choose. The freedom of spending a lot of quality time with my kids.
I didn`t get there over night, it took time, hard work and determination but today I work from home making a full time income from my kitchen table.
I tell you this because, you need to know what you want…
Know What You Want
The first thing when it comes to setting goals is knowing what you want. What`s your goals and dreams? Do you want freedom? Do you want to travel more? Do you want to spend more time with the people you love? Do you want more money?
Maybe you want time, maybe you want money, maybe you want to send a message to the world, maybe you want to be the best mom or dad that you can, maybe you want to climb the corportate ladder…
Knowing what you want, is the first step to setting goals. Looking back at last year did you have a clear picture of what you really wanted?
Self Reflection, How Did 2015 Go?
Weather you are continue on a journey for 2016 or setting completely new goals, it`s always good to take a look at what has been.
Look yourself in the mirror and be honest with what you see. What you have done so far, has brought you to where you are today, right.
Be honest with yourself. Are you on the right track? Are you reaching milestones that you did set? Are you the person that you want to be?
What Was Your Biggest Win Last Year?
What are you really happy about that you accomplished last year? Did you set goals that you reached? Did you take action on something you wanted to do for a while? Did you reach a financial goal?
For me I attended a conference that made me realize that I can`t do this by myself. There are so many great people in the blogging community, that working together is the way to go. I also realized at the conference that I need to pay a lot more attention to social media then what I have been doing.
What Can You Do Differently?
What are some things that didn`t really work out the way you were hoping they would? Is there anything you did that you would choose to do differently next time?
If you learn from the things, that don`t go the way you planned, you can improve and adjust and make it better the next time.
What Do You Need to Do More of?
Looking at last year what are some things that you know works well that you need to do more of? Is there maybe something that you need to test and try, to see if it works? Something you have thought of doing but never got around to it.
I know that I need to be doing more YouTube and social media. I know it works it`s just finding the time to do it, can you relate to that? That`s where the weekly tasks comes into hand. We will talk more about weekly tasks and goals in our next post – Goals 2016 Going Forward.
What Do You Need to Do Less of?
What are things that you spend time on this year, that did not move you closer to your main goal? This can also be things that instead of motivates you and push you forward, holds you back?
I know that I need to be stressing less. Working for yourself can be hard, I put a lot of pressure on myself and I know that doesn`t always benefit me and my business.
Build on What Works
I`m a big believer in building on what works and get kind of a snowball effect out of that so I`m going to give you a little challenge.
Write down 10 things that you are happy you accomplished 2015.
How can you use these things that are working well, to make 2016 even better?
In next weeks post we will be looking forward. We will talk about how to set your new goals for 2016.
